FAQs

Q: What is the minimum age to join NOVA?

A: You can join at the age of 15.

However, for Coed Premier (Level 6), CASNCC requires athletes to be minimally 17 years of age  in order to be able to compete

Q: Do I need to have prior experience in order to join the team?

A: Nope.

Here at NOVA, we believe in potential over current ability. Everyone will be given equal chances   (as much as possible before the competition period nears), without the pressure of an immediate assessment. As long as you come for training consistently with an open mindset and are willing to constantly push yourself beyond your limits, the team will never give up on you.

Q: What can I do to better prepare myself for the sport before taking the leap?

A: Cheerleading is an all-encompassing sport (cheer, dance, jumps, tumbling/gymnastics and stunts).

For those new to the sport, it would be good to condition yourself physically at home or at the gym to improve your strength, stamina and flexibility (especially important for girls).

Q: How many times does NOVA train a week?

A: We train 3 times a week at Potong Pasir Community Centre.
Juniors and Seniors - Tuesdays and Fridays (7pm to 10pm)
     Seniors / Competitive Team - Saturdays (1pm to 6pm)

Q: When is the Singapore National Cheerleading Competition?

A: It is usually held in March, yearly.

Q: When is the "right time" to join?

A: NOVA's official recruitment period is usually end of March to May annually, after the end of each competition season.

For experienced cheerleaders, you may contact us and subsequently come down trainings at any point in the year until the team starts preparing for the upcoming Nationals. Recruitment for the team will officially close around October.
